The Society We Live In
If you're feeling overwhelmed or less like yourself and questioning what you need to be doing differently, take a look around. This society is not built with our full well-being in mind:
We can be online so much that our nervous systems don't get a break.
We optimize everything except our internal capacity to handle this wave of capitalism.
Our grocery stores wrap peeled oranges in plastic - as if they don't grow their own protective covering.
If you're waking up each day still trying to help yourself and be kind to your anxiety-inducing coworker, then you're already doing what should be impossible: expressing love, while living in a pressurized culture.
In Traditional Chinese Medicine, it's said that your internal state is shaped by your environment and your body's ability to adapt to it.
Maybe the next thing to figure out in life is how to help your body adapt to your environment, which includes this society, your home, your workplace.
In my work with clients, this adaptation revolves around the nervous system.

Nervous System Sensitivity
Our nervous systems have a sensitivity that is as core to who we are as a personality trait. Much like extroversion and introversion, this sensitivity is on a spectrum.
People with high sensitivity experience life as though the "volume" of the world is turned up: emotions are more intense, lights are brighter, and sounds are more disruptive and distracting.
They're also experts at innovation, leadership, and problem-solving complex situations. They can get things done quickly and efficiently without much instruction or guidance. They are excellent in creative, intuitive, and entrepreneurial fields.
But they often give the world so much without feeling that same type of support in return.
And if this is you, remember the society we live in. In a community-based society, if we got overwhelmed, we'd be able to take a break: bills get paid, we are taken care of, and we return refreshed and renewed. But in our individual-based society, chances are when you feel overwhelmed, you have to keep moving forward or take care of yourself (by yourself).
So how do we support our nervous system sensitivities while living in this type of society, so we can enjoy life with creativity and fun?
Nervous system regulation.

Nervous System Regulation
I so wish we could feel calm all the time. Most people I know feel stressed, overwhelmed, or exhausted, and I know how deeply they want "just one good day." Life can feel really heavy, really quickly when you don't feel at ease most of the time.
You want to feel peace, you want your body to reset, and you want a calmness that never shakes.
I so wish this is how the world worked. Those desires are incredibly understandable, because when the nervous system is overwhelmed, it can start to react in ways that feel hard to manage. Resisting what it's feeling can create a cycle of dysregulation where pain often comes with panic; fatigue brings about fear, and grief feels consuming.
Nervous system regulation can make it easier to experience what you're feeling without it taking over. Discomfort can feel less intense. Grief can move through your day without consuming it. And long-held stress can begin to soften.
Nervous system regulation is one way we can support how we adapt to our environment. I offer this support through the Just Be Method™ and Shamanic Reiki.

My main goal is to enjoy this life with silliness and creativity.
To do that, I realized I needed to adapt to my environment (namely, this society).
Creating a sense of community, nervous system regulation, and understanding my high sensitivity are what finally made life feel more light, more free, and more fun.
I designed the Just Be Method™ to support our nervous systems, and Shamanic Reiki is where we get to 1. remember that our natural world (Mother Earth) deeply and truly supports us, and 2. relax into the spacious, loving, and meditative world of energy work.
