Owner of Just Be My Story I have always been a high-achieving perfectionist, which came crashing and burning down in my last semester of college when my academic advisor didn't stop me from taking 2x the amount of classes that was usually permissible. Intense stomach pain. Full-body tension, like I was getting squeezed out. Panic at stoplights or in lines at stores. Terrified to leave my house. Unable to eat. Staying away from other people. I tried talk therapy and left sessions trying to hold back the shaking that arose from what the therapist's questions brought up. I journaled my thoughts daily and scared myself with what came out. I combated negative self-talk with positive thinking and got 5 seconds of peace before the intense wave of fear would return. I tried anxiety medication and the 1st dose left me unable to close my eyes, afraid that someone was going to attack me. I tried surgery to remove the stomach polyps that my tension and anxiety created. Nothing worked until I found body-based emotional healing, energy work, and my life purpose. After 5 years of healing sessions, that version of me doesn't feel like the same person I am today, although so much of her is integrated into who I have become. (Our past, the version of us who's creating these symptoms, has to be integrated in order to heal. She can't be de-sensitized, go through exposure therapy, or avoided… and she cannot be integrated too fast either. She arose out of a fast-paced reality; she needs gentle nurturing.) Every single holistic professional I went to, every class I took, every training I attended, was all to help me first, and this is an important aspect to my story. The Providers who helped me the most were the ones I modeled: I wanted to learn what they knew so that I could support myself between sessions… because to be honest, even weekly sessions weren’t enough—I felt like I needed support every 15 minutes some days. I have always found such radical healing within just the first few sessions of any body-based service that I receive. I excitedly shared my experience with friends and family and quickly found myself doing these services for others. Now that my crippling symptoms are g-o-n-e, GONE (let's celebrate that!), I find myself learning techniques to expand upon my healing. Getting to a place of deep, prolonged peacefulness leads to creativity and true joy. I once thought peace was the end-goal, and I've come to believe that it is just the beginning. Not long after, I became a Reiki 1 at the same age. I always felt particularly connected to energy in a way I couldn't explain. As I continued my reiki journey, I decided to become a massage therapist right out of high school, and began reflexology school not long after I graduated. Just after I graduated from that, I became a Reiki Master and certified in Manual Lymphatic Drainage. As you can tell, I have a little bit of an addiction to learning about everything in my field. I began my traveling massage therapy journey. Then, I started to notice something about the homes I was visiting. I noticed that crystals always ended up sitting in bowls on shelves. As an avid crystal fan, I'm just as guilty! I started to wonder, how could we heal with crystals on days when we don't have the energy to think about our own self care? I have poured myself into understanding who I am, who we are, and why we are here. I have always been a spiritual person, having been raised in a loving Mennonite family. Seeking has been a part of my being since I can remember. Through the years, I have experienced a fairly normal life. I was married & divorced, remaining excellent friends with me ex to this day! Attended and served in various churches until I realized it no longer was resonating with me. Had a successful career as an Interior designer, spending over 30 years in a field that once held all my attention. Played in various bands, even leading worship at church. Ran a fun espresso bar at a local farmer’s market. I was doing life but still not understanding why. That is until 2019... I had just moved with my partner into a new apartment. Recently divorced, I was ready for a fresh, new start, excited for life and all the new possibilities! Then 3 months later, my whole world came crashing down around me. I developed a severely debilitating chronic eye disease that left me with immense pain & excruciating dryness, unable to barely function in the outside world. I questioned my existence and what my future looked like at that moment. I retreated into myself, no longer going out or visiting friends. The pandemic was the best thing that could’ve happened for me ironically. It allowed me the time to heal, both physically and emotionally. It was during this time that I awoke to a new realization. That all there is, is Unconditional Love and that is who we are. My healing journey had begun. Through therapy, meditation, and music, I began to recreate myself. I began to heal inwardly and outwardly. Found strength within myself that I never knew existed. I began to see this existence in a different way, a new perception. I tranformed into a new person. I gave myself the care that I profoundly needed, journeying through deep hurts and stagnant emotions long stifled within myself. I cried almost every night for 5 years, having bottled up so much. It all needed to come out, to be accepted and loved, and finally to be released. Sound bathing became a major part of my healing journey. Every night I would connect with the mystical tones and sounds of the Tibetan sound bowls and etherial chimes. Feeling the vibrations reverberate within my being. Those 5 years of solitude and isolation are precious to me as it was during that time my whole being, beliefs, and purpose changed. It has been an inconceivably beautiful journey. Following my intuition and all the bread crumbs, has led me to where I am today. Someone who is still on a healing journey but in a much better place both physically and emotionally. Someone who is stepping out into the unknown, placing my confidence in Love. Someone who very much wants to walk alongside you on your healing journey. I have experienced the lowest of lows. I know what it feels like to reach the end of your rope. But I also know what it feels like to pick oneself up and rise from the ashes into a most unbelievable journey of Light and Love. Reiki Practitioner Embodiment Provider (in-training) Holistic Apprenticeship Graduate (in-progress) Staring up at the ceiling from a warm massage table, soft floral scents filled the air and warm string lights framed the room. There was a certain calming energy about this space. I had not felt peace like this in a long time. Hang on, how the hell did I get here? Reiki. Why Reiki? Well, why talk therapy? Why counseling? Why doctor visits? Why was I carrying around a lifetime of guilt and disapproval that I hid deep down inside me that felt comforted by abusing alcohol and overextending myself at a job I hated? Normal right? Everyone does it. “I don’t want to survive, I want a wonderful life.” There it is. My outlook on life summed up in a single song lyric. Sure, life seemed wonderful on the outside, but on the inside, I felt drained and soon enough the inside started leaking outward. I couldn’t do it anymore, just survive. I wasn’t sure what Reiki was or what to expect, but I put my skepticism aside and proceeded with an open mind. I gave every other approach a fair shot, why not this. I asked my mind to be open. To place any judgement or doubt aside. I asked my heart to open. To be vulnerable. I asked my body to be calm and relax. To be present and accepting in the moment. The session was incredible, life changing. I felt as though a heavy emotional layer had been pealed back. The holistic approach looks at the whole person for healing, Physical, Emotional, Mental, Spiritual (PEMS), not just physical symptoms that are presented. It is often necessary to work on the healing of one state before another and we don’t always realize this. There is also an array of other tools to further explore and heal difficult emotional history, another favorite of mine, Embodiment Coaching. As I continued into this new holistic world of healing, I soon realized I had a solid connection to both accept the organic life force energy as well as offer it. I had been receiving various treatments since 2023 and in January of 2025 an opportunity presented itself to join the Just Be Holistic Apprenticeship Program. My goal throughout this program is to learn the processes and techniques to help others discover clarity in their own life whether that be healing, finding their true self, passions, happiness, peace – to conduct this in a judgement free, safe and comfortable environment.
